Prompt 13: 🕰️ Spending Time

I just finished a 4.8 km run on the treadmill and it felt great! My pace is steady, and I’m not overly tired. However, getting up at 6 am is still tough. I tend to read at night before sleeping, which cuts into my rest time. Plus, it takes me about an hour and a half to drift off unless I’m really exhausted after an intense workout and haven’t slept in the afternoon. Balancing everything sure feels like a complex adulting act!
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” – J.R.R. Tolkien
Since August 15th, 2024, I’ve taken a week-long break from social media apps on my phone. It’s amazing how time slips away while mindlessly scrolling through alluring but ultimately pointless content. This detox has been a boon for my mental health. With the time I’ve reclaimed, I’m diving into reading, learning calligraphy through online classes led by a friend who’s a brush pen expert, and improving my household management. As someone who struggles with multitasking, dedicating time to focus on daily tasks has been key to actually getting them done.
My grasp of time is quite abstract; I get the concept of deadlines, but without one, I struggle to kickstart the process of completing a task. My father and husband, however, are sticklers for time—a trait I admire and want to adopt. Viewing time as a finite resource can be a downer, though it’s a fact. I prefer to see time as boundless, filled with opportunities to tackle exciting and enjoyable challenges. Naturally, not every mundane daily task fits this exciting definition, but I aim to spend my time on what brings me joy. My interests are ever-evolving. After all, what’s the point of living fifteen years in a row without any memorable moments?
