Prompt 12: 🏃🏻♀️Fears about Running

Heya! I attended my first ambassador meetup for Denver Colfax Marathon 2025 yesterday evening and returned with a lot of free goodies to share with others and encourage people to join in! I also started reading a new eBook, ‘Slow AF Run Club‘ by Martinus Evans and I already love it😘 The prompt for today is from the book, so here we go!
Running is a struggle of the mind. It’s literally you versus the thoughts in your head versus other people’s thoughts of you versus the thoughts in your head about other people’s thoughts of you. – Martinus Evans
My fears about running:
- Not reaching the finish line (DNF) – has happened!
- Getting severely injured.
- Not being able to run.
- Looking silly while running! – I know this is ridiculous 😛
The positives from facing those fears are:
- I am better strategizing my runs with resources who, too, have DNF’d before! I am not taking one DNF to stop me from reaching that finish line on 18 May 2025.
- I think during my intense long runs, I have been immensely worried about my recovery time because I have been in pain. But the more I do, the better my body understands how to cope with it.
- This is like a fear that I have, where I imagine I won’t be able to exercise my right to run due to surroundings, situations, health issues, etc.
- I saw one of my photos from yesterday’s meet-up and all I saw was how heavy I looked! This constant nagging of mind is something that also seeps into my running when I want to look effortlessly good but all I see is my flabs…but thankfully I am not surrendering into that kind of this-or-nothing negativity.
