As I sit down and look through my cloud-stored folders and update my financial budgeting sheets for the year, it does not feel like a new year is about to begin today. 2020 has been insane – #lockdown #Covid #virus #WFH #mentalhealth #burnout and so forth. A lot has been going on in the last few weeks and I have not been in an emotionally stable place to gather up some courage and continue posting my blogs. However, I am getting better and it is a good time to wrap up my major hits and misses, high and lows, what I read and what I have learnt during this unusually chaotic year. Also, here is wishing you and your dear ones a healthy and prosperous new year ahead!
Let me take this moment just to say – you lived; every single day you woke up and tried to fight your blues due to this collective stress that has been impacting your daily life. Please pat yourselves for keeping it together with hope, strength and perseverance.
The world of self-help or self-improvement books is a league of its own. Whether you want guidance on an area of life that you would like to improve on or are simply looking for suggestions from those who have been there and done that, picking a self-help book can become cumbersome since you can easily search for suggestions on Google/Quora/YouTube etc. These books can cater to a range of interests—money, productivity, people skills, motivation, mindfulness, creativity, spirituality etc. Any book that claims to help you in improving or managing it better can be termed as a self-help book.
I have noticed people who usually do not read fiction books somehow like to dip their toes in reading a good self-help book. But while picking such a book, there are certain things that I would like to share so you don’t end up feeling that the recommendations put down by the author are all in the air. In my next post, I will share my list of six self-help books which I have read (or re-read) this year and would highly recommend it to you.
Let’s take a step back, breathe, and appreciate everyone for managing work from home for past 5-6 months. It is not easy! I struggled with managing my schedule, my sleep, my anxiety and overall, my mental and physical health went out of the window when WFH initially began. Note—this is my first job, and so many people around the world would have joined a company via virtual onboarding (including my brother), and it challenges you to face a lot of obstacles making that learning curve quite steep. However, I feel a lot more in control now—I have learned many things along the way and here I am, to share with you my ten tips for managing WFH effectively.
One of my resolutions this year was to build the habit of reading multiple books at a time to quickly go through my TBR pile. I love reading books (no surprises there) but reading many books at the same time was not a method that I had adopted previously. A month into 2020 and I finally have a decent checklist of goals for this year. Call it my belated yearly resolutions, but I feel motivated when I have things to look forward to and achieve (plus the excitement to tick things off from a checklist is pure joy!). I like to keep my goals flexible—adding more things as the year progresses and crossing off the ones I manage to complete. Like any list of goals, we tend to get overwhelmed if we add too many.
