¡Hola mi amigos!
Life has changed quite a lot ever since I left my home country. It took me a while to adjust in a new environment and learn so many things of being homemaker. Since I have been temporarily unemployed since December 02, 2022 – I have channeled my energies into learning the ropes of freelancing social media marketing, content creation and WIX designing.
And I kid you not – it is a lot harder than it looks. I mean, designing, writing, scheduling, researching to curate your own content, studying freelancing courses, and engaging to build my network and brand completely sucks you into a loophole. And I have not even fully started with lead generation. And household chores to top it all is draining too.
To combat my increasingly overwhelming nerves due to endless scrolling, I have taken up a 30-day challenge to do yoga every day. Yoga and meditation. I mean, I keep trying so many things – might as well stick to a routine that is doable on a long term without burning out in a short while. And I am loving it so far! My motivation usually starts dwindling after 2 weeks but following Yoga with Adriene on YouTube is a boon. Hope to successfully complete the challenge and keep doing it for next 3 months.
If you have not heard of Slowly – it is an app to send virtual letters to strangers from all over the world! I have used Slowly when it first launched 6 years back– the UX back then was basic – you write a short letter anonymously and hit SEND. That is it! You also get an anonymous letter from a stranger too. And you can continue to send letters and make more pen pals. I used it for a short while but few nights back, I suddenly wanted to check if that app was available on iOS and oh my! The app has improved so much over 6 years! I can now add stamps, customize my avatar (your profile is still anonymous) and have a lot more option to set your interests and filters for receiving messages. And all of it is slow. Yep, unlike emails or DMs – you will have to wait for days before you receive your next message. But that is what I like about this app – with anonymity, you receive such nice and well-written messages. I hope to continue writing since this helps me practice and stay consistent with writing in general.
I am currently amid figuring out many things – how to find and pitch potential clients, build my own personal brand, provide better services, build digital products, apply for an online Digital Marketing program (fingers crossed since the program has an extensive interview process to get selected), and just stay sane. Content creation has helped me become selective of what content I consume in the form of books, videos, newsletters, posts, etc. But it also consumes so much time and energy leaving me feel burnt out frequently.
Doom scrolling < Intentional scrolling
There are days when I feel I should give up, and then there are days when I have the motivation to continue growing in this new path. Never did I think I would leave a job to start freelancing – but here I am, putting in time and effort so I can grow manifold even though it seems quite marginal now. Plus, the future seems quite unknown to me. Building something of your own is risky and takes so much patience – but it makes you familiar with uncertainties and thinking big – sky is the limit. So hopefully, things do work out in the end.
Thank you so much for reading this post. Cheers!
